About Mothers Day

Mothers Day is dedicated to celebrate the bliss of Motherhood. It’s a day when we get the divine opportunity to thank and show gratitude to our mothers. Mothers are everything for us when we are small. She is the person for whom we have stepped into this world. Our lives revolve around her. She is like a protective shield from all perceivable dangers. To take us out we hold her arms. To heal our wounds we run to her. And for a warm hug and love we look for her. She is the focal point of our lives, the greatest human being in the world or better said the image of God on earth. On the special occasion of Mother’s Day we pay tribute to our mother and make her feel happy.

History Of Mother’s Day

The history of Mother’s Day is quite old and the earliest Mother’s Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. During the 1600′s, the early Christians in England celebrated a day to honor Mary, the mother of Christ. Later on in UK, Mother’s Day celebrations started by the name of Mothering Sunday. Mothering Sunday came to be celebrated following the practice in UK of 17th century where children from struggling families were send to work as apprentice and domestic servants with the rich. These children were allowed to visit their ‘Mother Church’ or the Cathedral of their home town annually in the middle of the fasting month. Children met their mothers after visiting the church and presented them with flowers and special cakes . Thus it was a kind of Mothers day for them.

In US the roots of the Mothers Day celebration were in the words of Julia Ward Howe. In 1872, she expresses the view of celebrating a special day for mothers. This was done through her prolific writings. Soon the fervor started growing strength and every body demanded declaration of official holiday and celebrations on Mothers Day. Her idea gained popularity but she could not get the idea implemented. Later on, after her death another activist Anne Jarvis worked hard to give all mothers their due recognition and it paid off. Mother’s Day was celebrated in almost every state in the Union. On May 8, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. From then on Mother’s day has been celebrated every year with a lot of enthusiasm and spirit.

With the passage of time the celebrations of Mothers Day have gone through a massive transformation. Today Mothers day involves everything from giving gifts, writing poems, cutting cakes to showering mothers with boundless love. The festival of Mothers Day is based on the emotions shared between mother and a child. As grown ups it’s our turn to thank that special lady with the best that we can.

Field hockey is a popular sport that has female athletes all over the country scrambling to learn more. For girls who are very serious about the sport and learning to perfect their moves on the field, there are plenty of field hockey camp opportunities available.

Generally held on college campuses where field hockey is played, these camps are designed to give potential high school and college level players and current ones, too, a serious crash course in training. Offering lots of practice time and special clinics, these camps can be ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about the sport or learn to become better at it.

Field hockey camp offerings generally come in one of two ways: residential and non-residential. The residential camps tend to cost a little more, but offer lodging, generally, on the hosting college campus. This means girls won’t need to be driven to and from camp each day. Non-residential camps are designed for nearby players who can easily make it to daily sessions.

Camps of this nature can do a number of things for potential and current players, including:

* Skill development. This is the ultimate setting for field hockey skill development. With an opportunity for some serious one-on-one attention from qualified coaches, these camps and clinics can take a player and help push her towards her goals.

* Camaraderie. These camps are wonderful for developing friendships among girls who have a passion for the sport in their hearts.

* Discipline. These camps are not for the weak at heart. The idea here is to help serious players hone their skills. Those who are not willing to work shouldn’t apply.

* Scholarship potential. While field hockey is played in high school, it tends to be a big college-level sport. Girls who want to earn scholarships need to show they have the right stuff on the fields. These camps can help them hone the skills to do just that.

* Specialized training. Many of these camps offer special training and clinics for certain positions. There are even all-day camps for goalies only, due to the special skills of this position.

Girls and their parents will find field hockey camps tend to be available at most institutions that field their own teams. From private high school campuses, public schools and even colleges, these camps are favorite summertime activities for many. Before signing on, it’s a good idea to make sure the following is understood:

* Qualifications. Find out who will teach the clinics and what their qualifications are for doing so. Some camps offer high school coaches, others feature college level and beyond.

* Minimum requirements. Some of these camps are designed for advanced players. Make sure the requirements are understood before signing on.

* Session set up. It’s a good idea to be clear on whether a camp is a day one or a residential course.

Field hockey camp can be a great way to help players advance their skills during intense training sessions. While they are a lot of work, many say they’re a whole lot of fun, too.

Aim For College

Parents can provide a college preparation during high school for every student, which can benefit every child. If they ultimately don’t go to college, then your homeschool education will be the only education they get. Make it great! They’ll be well prepared for life and their civic responsibilities. Plus, if they ever change their mind and decide to go to college, they will have a much easier time getting in. On the other hand, some parents know early on that their children are college bound. For them, a college prep education can influence the quality of the colleges they get admitted to. College preparation can benefit everyone!

Plan Courses

During eighth and ninth grade, find out about your own state requirements and make a plan to meet those requirements. Review the common college expectations for recommended high school courses. For help with courses, see my previous article on Planning High School Courses.

Look over your high school plan at least once a year. As you begin to focus on college and career goals, you may need to adjust your plan slightly each year as you go. Budding nurses and engineers may need to buckle down with math, and missionary preparation could benefit from more foreign languages. So review it yearly while you relax and enjoy a lifestyle of learning. Try to include essay writing in your plan. The ability to write a few paragraphs quickly can be beneficial for both college and career dreams.

Plan for Tests

High school testing can cause stress for parents AND students. What test do you take when, and how do you know? Most of those answers are found on two websites: The College Board and ACT. Take the PSAT in 10th grade for fun, but only the PSAT taken in 11th grade will count toward the National Merit Scholarship. It’s only offered once each year, so register before September of the student’s junior year, in 11th grade. College admission tests, the SAT and ACT, are often taken in 11th grade and repeated if necessary. Take some time to think about additional subject tests to measure knowledge in specific areas. SAT 2 Subject tests are best taken immediately after you complete each subject. So for example, take the SAT 2 in French right after you finish studying French. Consider taking AP exams when you finish courses as well. They are more intensive subject tests, but they can earn college credit!

Encourage Extra-Curricular Activities

You want your kids to be well-rounded, and the colleges want that too! Encourage your child to volunteer for community service. Consider employment, internships or apprenticeships. Encourage activities like sports, music, art, and other experiences. College love to see kids are passionate about something. They can see this elusive “passion” in extra-curricular activities that students continue through all four years of high school. The Washington Post suggests that it’s best to focus on one or two areas to specialize in, rather than doing a little of everything.

Find a College

Finding a college is more than watching where your friends and neighbors go to school. Take your sophomore or junior to a college fair, or search online for the perfect college match for your student. Once you have some possibilities, visit the college in person. Visiting is the only way to see if it’s a perfect match. Try to whittle down the list to a handful of colleges by the end of junior year. When you visit, ask about their homeschool admission policy. Find out what records they want from you, and any additional testing requirements they have. Consider getting my DVD, Finding a College for more detailed information.

Consider College Finances

We all know we “should” be saving for college, but we certainly have varying degrees of success doing it! You can look for scholarships at any time, but if finances are a huge concern, you may want to really work on a scholarship search during sophomore and junior year. When you are looking at colleges, don’t be afraid of private schools. They often give significantly better financial aid than public schools, and often their prices are comparable. Forbes Magazine published an article called “The World’s Most Expensive Universities” that explains, “Those costs reflect a trend among private American universities–charge a stratospheric tuition fee, then offer a generous financial aid package.” So don’t be afraid of the list price of a school. In January of senior year, the parents should complete the FAFSA. This IRS-style form will help colleges determine how much money the government thinks you can afford to pay for college – often with hilarious results! Here we are worrying about the price of gasoline, and they think we can afford that amount? The FAFSA will be used to determine how much financial aid the colleges will give you.

Prepare High School Records

Once you decide what colleges your child will apply to, ask those colleges what high school records they want from you. It can vary significantly, and there is no way to know unless you ask. They may only ask for a transcript. Some colleges will also want a simple reading list, but others will want exhaustive course descriptions and grading criteria. Some college will have very strange and unique requirements. Find out their requirements early so that you can give them what they want. That’s why I always recommend keeping everything in high school – you never know what they will want. One college asked me for an English paper that I had graded. Another college wanted subject tests in many different areas. Like a boy scout, be prepared! At the very end of homeschooling, at the end of senior year, remember to send the college a final transcript that includes graduation date, final grades and grade point average.

Apply to College

College applications are long and complicated. Admission essays are tedious and time consuming. Plan to begin the application process during September of senior year to allow enough time to complete it in a timely fashion. It’s possible to write college application essays in junior year if you want to plan ahead. You can always edit it again right before submitting it. Start early. Each college may require two or more essays, and their application can be many more additional pages. Sometimes admission and financial aid decisions are “first come, first served” so it can really pay off to plan ahead. I encourage students to finish applications by January first whenever possible, be in the best possible position. The college deadline may be later, but they will be swamped with applicants near the deadline. They can give your application a more relaxed reading if you turn it in early.

Be Confident in the Benefits of Homeschooling

Homeschoolers have the advantage in college preparation! We are intimately involved in the education of our children. We really know their strengths and weaknesses, their goals and passions. We can provide the best guidance counseling for them because we are love-givers, not care-givers. In school settings, a guidance counselor may know a lot about tests and deadlines, that’s true. But they have hundreds of students to help, and they may speak to each student only once or twice. Just like our wonderful student-teacher ratio, our student-advisor ratio just can’t be beat!

Be brave! Parents know their child better than anyone, and they are perfectly capable of providing the guidance they need through high school. You can do it!

Lacrosse is a great sport, and for some high school students it is a way to earn a scholarship to college, by playing on a college lacrosse team. If this is what you wish to do, you will need to start early and plan ahead in order to reach this goal. One of the important steps you can take is to attend lacrosse recruiting camps. College lacrosse recruiting coaches will be in attendance, and it gives you a great opportunity to not only show these coaches what you can do on the field, but to also check out the college where the camp takes place, and see how you like it.

Starting in your sophomore year in high school, you will want to start narrowing down your list of favorite colleges. By doing this, it helps you to focus your attention on the ones that can do the most for you. It also helps you to not waste time on those that for whatever reason dropped off your list.

Once you have a narrowed list, this can help you when it comes to lacrosse recruiting camps. You will want to begin your scholarship process by doing a little research. Check out each college in which you have an interest, and determine who the lacrosse coaching staff are, and what their scholarship requirements are. You will see that lacrosse college recruiting deals with academics in addition to sports, and you will find out what academic goals need to be met in order to qualify for a college lacrosse recruiting scholarship at the college of your choice.

After the research, you will want to sign up to attend lacrosse recruiting camps and lacrosse recruiting tournaments that will best meet your needs. You want to be seen by the coaching staff of the colleges you are most interested in, so you will want to check their schedules to see which lacrosse recruiting camps they will be attending. You also want to attend a camp at a college you might like to attend. This gives you a chance to not only have fun playing lacrosse at the camp, but you can also check out student housing, the cafeteria, and watch the college lacrosse team play, so you can see what the college is like in person.

In addition to attending lacrosse recruiting camps, you will also want to shoot a lacrosse recruiting video of yourself. By sending your lacrosse recruiting video to your favorite colleges’ lacrosse college recruiting staffs prior to your attendance at a camp gives them an opportunity to see you in action ahead of time, so hopefully they will be looking for you at the camps you attend. Make sure you have a digital version of your lacrosse recruiting video available to make it even easier for college lacrosse recruiting coaches to see you play well.

I am the proud parent of a pitcher. My daughter plays softball. She does fastpitch softball pitching. I have to say she is very good. She started at a young age. She was six when she first took the field. My husband took her to a game when she was five and she was fascinated by the softball pitching. After that she was hooked. We watched a lot of softball pitching through the years. She particularly liked the fastpitch softball pitching as she was growing up. When she was old enough, the fastpitch softball pitching was what she wanted to do. When the summer Olympics are on, you can\’t tear her away from the TV during the women\’s fastpitch softball games. We all watch actually.

What is the difference between regular softball pitching compared to fastpitch softball pitching? The main thing is the windmill. You underhand throw in softball pitching. It looks a little crazy if you are used to baseball pitching. You do the same in fastpitch softball pitching, but with the windmill motion. That looks crazier still. The windmill motion is a circular motion where the snap release is key. The ball spins at the release. This makes fastpitch softball pitching more exciting to watch then regular softball pitching. That\’s why my daughter is so obsessed with it. I\’m hoping it helps her get a scholarship for college.

We have turned into quite the softball family because of our girl. We should own stock in softball baseball equipment. There is softball sports equipment in all areas of our house, even the bathroom. We seem to purchase softball baseball equipment every time we turn around. It can get quite expensive, but we see it as an investment in our daughter\’s future. That being said, it is dangerous sometimes at our house. Softballs come rolling out at you from everywhere. I cannot tell you how many times I have tripped over softballs and almost broken my neck. We have baskets for all the softballs, but they never stay put. Our dog may actually have something to with that.

We also have a lot of other softball sports equipment. My daughter likes Nokona softball mitts. She has played with Nokona softball mitts since she started. She will only shop the Nokona site for her softball mitts. This is the only softball sports equipment she is that loyal too though. Softball bats are a different story. She has played with wood softball bats and metal softball bats. She tried the carbon fiber softball bats, but wasn\’t that impressed. Mostly she plays with a metal one as do most of the other girls on her team. I\’m just happy that the bats and mitts are better behaved softball baseball equipment then the balls. At least these pieces of softball baseball equipment stay where they are put.

I have to say that it has been exciting watching our daughter grow as a softball pitcher. The game has taught her teamwork and responsibility. Both these attributes will serve her well in life. I look forward to watching her games these next two years of high school and at the college she chooses. Who knows, maybe one day we will be able to watch her pitch in the Olympics. Maybe by the time she is ready the sport will have won its way back in.

This article will help you with High Jump and Long Jump.

**High jump**

You don’t have to be really tall in able to succeed in high jump however been really tall is a great advantage. You can only jump from one leg and need to decide if that shall be your left or right leg. I recommend that when you do this you run like half a circle and approach the bar at a side that suits you. Its really important that you get as close as you possibly can to the bar. Once you are in the air you need to be able to push your head over the bar and flick your legs up into the air this will allow you to decline at a 45 degree angle and will help you get over the bar with out touching it. I do agree its hard to get your leg over the bar that’s why you need that flick from your legs otherwise you won’t succeed and will fail badly.

**Long Jump**
In order to establish where you need to start just run and jump simply run backwards from the jumping line and when it feels right jump. You must then keep that place and that’s where you are running from. When you go to do the run you need to go as fast as you can with the longest strides as you can then when your as close as you can to the line jump. Its important that when you land you land as if you were sitting down as you will hover above the sand and go forward as best as you can then land.

People who jump rope claim that they feel energized and free of stray thoughts after doing it. They become more agile, balanced and with sharpened reflexes.

By: Katie A. Jones

Jump rope workout routines have stood the test of time. Despite the arrival of different fad exercises and routines, anyone could still see a lot of people, especially athletes do jump rope in their conditioning workouts. People who jump rope claim that they feel energized and free of stray thoughts after doing it. They become more agile, balanced and with sharpened reflexes.

A main consideration about exercising with a jump rope is that the rope may not be appropriate to the person’s height, being too long or too short. The jump rope should be the right length of the body of the person to use it. Otherwise, he or she may trip or will find the rope too long to drag, making exercising with it a hassle. The person to use the rope should stand on the rope, hold it up and have the jump rope handles reach his or her armpits. If the handles come over or under the armpits, then the rope is either too long or too short.

A good jump rope workout will enable the person doing it to use all his or her body’s major muscles with just a jump. The arms, buttocks, legs, abs, shoulders, and chest contract and expand jump after jump, giving all of them a good workout. But before getting too excited, the jump roper should start slowly first, gathering speed and momentum after a few jumps. Premature fatigue will set if one starts too fast. Start with jumping for 30 seconds than rest for 15 seconds, and continue.

Once the jump roper feels that he or she has gotten very comfortable with the 30-15 second routine, he or she can increase the length of jumps to 45 seconds, and still rest for 15 seconds.

A jump rope workout has been proven to not just make people lose weight (as it is also a very good cardio workout), but also builds and tones muscles. What more could one ask for a workout with just a rope as equipment?

Being a good friend is not just about having a good time with others, it's also about how willing you are to put your friends first or point out when they're doing something you don't agree with.

By: J Dawkins

Being a good friend is not just about having a good time with others, it’s also about how willing you are to put your friends first or point out when they’re doing something you don’t agree with. Have a read through the following checklist and see how good a friend you really are.

Are you a good listener?

Part of being a good friend is about being willing to listen rather than just talk. This takes time and effort but if you can make time just to listen to others and respect what they have to say, then it’s a sign of a good friend.

Are you approachable?

Do your friends often turn to you first to share a problem or seek help? Are you willing to make yourself available to friends at short notice and welcome them if they turn up at your door?

Are you trustworthy?

If a friend tells you something personal are you good at keeping it in confidence, or do you go and tell everyone at the first opportunity? People need to know that they can trust a friends with important information and you will only store up trouble for yourself if you are seen as unreliable. A good friend is both trustworthy and reliable.

Do you avoid gossiping about others?

This is one of the biggest signs of a good friend and really does stand out. Do you avoid speaking badly about others or spreading rumors in order to hurt them? Do you defend friends when you hear others gossiping about them? If you avoid gossiping others will notice how different you are and soon realize what a truly good friend you are.

Are you selfless rather than selfish?

Do you put your friends needs above your own? Do you try to find a compromise if you can’t agree with a friend? Are you willing to do something your friend wants to do for a change rather than forcing them to do what you want? If you are willing to put your friends first in most things then this is a sign of a good friend.

Can you sensitively tell a friend what you really think?

Good friends don’t just go with the flow, sometimes they have to be honest and tell someone what they really think. Sometimes your friends might want to do something that is morally wrong or illegal or just plain unfair on another person. Are you able to tell your friend honestly what you think about it, without just going along with it? The sign of a good friendship is when you can be totally honest with the other person, without them being offended because they know you have their best interests at heart.

A pair of running girl’s shoes is one of the shoes that females buy these days because it helps in making their body better when running. This kind of shoes is not your regular shoes that you see in department stores because these are specially made ones that help in correcting the feet and the body.

There are brands that specifically offer running girl’s shoes and have staff that would even help you in picking the perfect running shoes. It is not the same if you buy in a general sports store because you just buy the general running shoes that might even be low quality. The running shoes in designer brands will help you in finding the right running shoes that you will feel comfortable when running, as well as help fix the problems in your feet and body.

The difference between female and male runners is that the former are prone to injuries because the top part of their legs joins the knee at a bigger angle. Girls need running shoes more to correct some problems in the feet caused by feet either rolling inwards or outwards. The designer brands that sell running shoes more than general sports stores have devices that will help you measure and determine in where your feet will roll. They will be the one who will find you the perfect running shoes so that you will comfortable when running. If your feet collapse inwards, you overpronate; but if outwards you underpornate or supinate.

Once you have determined your gait, they will find you girl’s shoes that will fit you, no matter the result of the “gait analysis”. Remember though that you will not immediately get your perfect pair at the first try. Try out other pairs until you have found the right one that you can run to without slipping or the shoe creating wounds. Don’t hesitate to ask the staff to help you out because they know better than anybody else, plus you can also ask for advices.

Here are some brands that you can go to buy running shoes: Nike, Saucony, Mizuno, Brooks and New Balance. They have specific models depending on the result of your gait analysis and also have very good customer service, so you can try them. You can still look for other brands because there are a lot of stores that sell running shoes specifically, so it would be much better to go to a specialist store. It is good to research more on stores that have helpful staff and are more than willing to help you in your running shoes problems.

You should not be hesitated spending money on running girl’s shoes because these are footwear that will help your body as you run. If running is your passion, then it should also be your passion to buy running shoes that will make you feel good while running. As said above, girls need more running shoes than me, so get up and run for those running shoes that you’ve been dying to get your hands to.
